Ruukki Expands its Range of High-Strength Optim Steels to Serve the Heavy Lifting Equipment and Mining Industries
HELSINKI, Sept. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - A forerunner in ultra-high-strength steel development, Ruukki has produced Optim structural steels since 2002. Ruukki's production programme already includes a wide variety of special steels, such as the thinnest available direct-quenched structural steels. The latest addition to Ruukki's family of high-strength Optim steels includes the thicker dimensional ranges of Optim 700 QL steel, up to 60 mm.

"Thanks to its excellent weldability, high strength and good impact strength, Optim 700 QL steel is well-suited for the needs of the heavy lifting equipment and mining industries. Typical applications include the load-bearing structures of heavy earth-moving and excavation equipment as well as offshore cranes," says Josu Piña, Vice President, Americas at Ruukki.
Optim steels have good workshop properties and their flatness and surface quality is excellent. This makes them easy to process into welded structures and components. Additionally, extra-high-strength Optim steels are easy to combine with wear-resistant Raex steels, providing an optimal structure for excavator buckets and similar wearing parts.
Ruukki's technical customer services provide extensive material expertise and support for using special steels for customers.
