MONTREAL, Oct. 16 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Norman Décarie, president and chief executive officer of SAIL Plein air Inc., a Canadian retail industry leader, is pleased to announce it is opening three new stores in Quebec this fall: two SAIL stores (Chicoutimi, October 17 and Lachenaie in December) and a Sportium store (Kirkland in November).
The SAIL Plein air president, a developer at heart, has big plans for the 100-per-cent Canadian company that he operates under two different banners: SAIL and Sportium. "As major upheavals rock the retail industry, largely due to the growing popularity of online shopping and ever-increasing competition in the 'brick-and-mortar' sector, we are continuing to grow our two sales channels more than ever," said Norman Décarie.
Consequently, the company will invest about $40 million this fall, creating more than 300 jobs. With the three store openings, the total retail space of SAIL Plein air Inc. will jump from 946,000 sq. ft., to more than 1.1 million sq. ft. Over the last four years, SAIL Plein air Inc. has invested about $100 million to develop its two store networks.
Acknowledged respectively as "the largest outdoor destination" and the "largest sports store in Quebec", these two brands stand out for their wide array of products, an experienced staff hired not on the basis of their résumé but on their story, and a commercial offering at once traditional and digital.
New warehouse
In addition, the company has just signed a lease to build a warehouse that will allow it to handle solely online orders for its SAIL banner and subsequently for Sportium across Canada, following the launch last year of the eCommerce transactional websites (sail.ca and sportium.ca). Next March, the company will unveil a new 70,000-sq.-ft warehouse on the South Shore of Montreal.
