Saint-Hubert Scout Troop renovates their community centre to better meet the needs of the public Français
The Government of Canada supports community project that will have positive impact on the community
SAINT-HUBERT, QC, April 18, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Key community stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, lasting improvements to community and recreational infrastructures. The Government of Canada is proud to support projects that, like this one by the Saint-Hubert (Saint-Jean District) Scout Troop, contribute to the vitality and dynamism of all of the country's regions.
Sherry Romanado, MP for Longueuil–Charles-LeMoyne, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, has announced that the Groupe Scout de Saint-Hubert (District Saint-Jean) inc. has been awarded $26,950 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, to upgrade its community hall.
Since 1987, the Saint-Hubert (Saint-Jean District) Scout Troop has worked to promote and support the development of young people so that they can reach their full potential as individuals, members of their community and citizens. In 2015, the troop purchased a community centre housed in an old church built over 50 years ago. The building contains a large community hall, offices and a meeting room that can be rented, as well as a kitchen and washrooms in the basement. The centre is used by the local population for block parties, movies, science exhibitions and a variety of ceremonies.
The funding provided under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will enable the Saint-Hubert (Saint-Jean District) Scout Troop to divide the largest room into three separate spaces and add washrooms for women and men on the ground floor. A great deal of work is anticipated, including plumbing, painting and electrical work. The project will help stimulate the economy in the short term through the impact generated by project activities and will contribute to long-term growth by increasing community vitality and dynamism.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
