SAINT JOHN, NB, July 10, 2018 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are working together to provide residents and businesses with modern, reliable and sustainable public infrastructure that will help safeguard public health and improve the quality of life for New Brunswickers.
Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John–Rothesay, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; Ed Doherty, New Brunswick Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saint John Harbour; and His Worship Don Darling, Mayor of the City of Saint John, today announced joint funding of more than $4.4 million for seven new infrastructure projects in Saint John.
The Government of Canada is contributing more than $1.6 million to these projects through both the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund and the Small Communities Fund. The Government of New Brunswick is contributing more than $1.3 million and the City of Saint John is responsible for the remainder of project costs.
This investment will bring many benefits to Saint John residents. It will help improve the heating and cooling system at the Carleton Community Centre and provide new energy efficient windows, allowing the Centre to reduce its carbon footprint while continuing to serve the community in the lower West Side.
In addition, the funding will support the resurfacing of the roads on King Street and Main Street West, as well as on Marlin Drive and Marlin Terrace. Watermains and sanitary sewers will be installed throughout the city, increasing the efficiency and reliability of the sanitary and storm sewer systems. This project will help maintain clean waterways and a healthy community for Saint John residents.
