Sam Roberts Band to Play at Banff National Park's Annual Outdoor Concert
Third-Annual 'Performance in the Park' to Take Place in Banff June 23, 2012
BANFF, AB, March 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Banff National Park's highly popular outdoor summer concert, "Performance in the Park", now in its third year, will host Montreal's Sam Roberts Band in Banff's Cascade Gardens June 23, 2012.
Performance in the Park, produced in partnership with Parks Canada, The Banff Centre and Banff Lake Louise Tourism, kicked off in 2010 to celebrate the destination's mountain heritage and the importance of protected places in Canada. Each concert has proved phenomenally successful with ticket sales consistently reaching maximum capacity.
"Performance in the Park always sells out so we encourage fans and visitors to get their tickets early if they hope to enjoy another fantastic summer day in the park with one of Canada's great bands," said Stu Back of Banff Lake Louise Tourism.
The Sam Roberts Band first came to the attention of music fans with the release of the EP "The Inhuman Condition" in 2002. The six-song album was a huge success in Canada, containing the hit tracks "Brother Down" and "Don't Walk Away Eileen." With their unique indie-urban rock sound, The Sam Roberts Band has since won numerous Juno Awards including, most recently, 2009's 'Artist of the Year' and 'Rock Album of the Year' for their third album "Love at the End of the World". Their latest album, "Collider", released in May 2011, has also been nominated for this year's 'Rock Album of the Year' Juno Award.
The band will be accompanied by folk-rock singer/songwriter Dan Mangan of British Columbia who was also recently nominated for four Juno Awards, including 'Best New Artist'.
The band's frontman, Sam Roberts, was named the first-ever Sustainability Ambassador for the Juno Awards last week, making the band's decision to play in Canada's first national park a poignant one as the Banff Stewardship Fund, which receives a portion of ticket sales, seeks to promote responsible enjoyment of the national park.
Tickets for the family-friendly concert, available through The Banff Centre Box Office and Ticketmaster, go on sale April 3, 2012 with 500 tickets set aside at a reduced price for children under the age of 12.
Previous bands that played to sold-out crowds at Performance in the Park include Great Big Sea in 2011 and Spirit of the West in 2010.
