Samsung Electronics Canada Releases Important Software Update to Ensure Emergency Services Connectivity on R330 Flip Cover Mobile Phones Français
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - Samsung Electronics Canada today announced an important software update for Samsung R330 flip cover (SCH-R330) mobile phones sold through SaskTel from January 2010 through July 2011. The free software update is now available from SaskTel Stores and authorized SaskTel Dealers and should be installed immediately to address an issue with a faulty image and to ensure customers are able to connect to emergency services.
Although not all R330 flip cover phones are affected, those that are affected may be unable to connect to emergency services. Affected R330 flip cover phones may still be capable of dialling other telephone numbers when connected to a mobile phone network. It is important that all R330 customers in Saskatchewan visit a SaskTel Store or Authorized Dealer to have the software installed immediately as a precautionary measure.
The Samsung R330 flip cover mobile device is the only phone manufactured by Samsung requiring this important update and is limited to Canadian customers. No other Samsung wireless phones or software versions are affected and the issue is not related to wireless service.
Customers who own a Samsung R330 flip cover (SCH-R330) mobile device will receive a text message from SaskTel advising them of the issue. Customers can also confirm if they own a Samsung R330 flip cover (SCH-R330) mobile device by looking for the "SCH-R330" model number printed on a sticker on the device behind the battery.
Customers should visit their local SaskTel Store or Authorized Dealer as soon as possible for the free software update. As a follow up, Samsung will also be sending SaskTel customers with the R330 flip cover mobile device a software package including instructions on how to do the software update using their home computer in the coming weeks. However, customers are encouraged to visit a SaskTel Store or Authorized Dealer to have their phone update completed immediately.
"The safety and security of our Samsung customers is our number one priority," said Paul Brannen, Vice President, Enterprise Business Division, Samsung Canada. "Together with our carrier partners we are committed to working quickly to ensure affected customers are notified and receive the software update in a timely manner."
