Samuel, Son & Co., Limited Acquisition of Assets of Wilkinson Steel and Metals Completed

MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Wayne Bassett, President and CEO of Samuel, Son & Co., Limited announces the completion of the acquisition of assets of Wilkinson Steel and Metals. The acquisition substantially increases Samuel's presence in Western Canada with branches strategically located in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The acquisition will increase our strategic alliances with the economies of the three provinces dealing directly with the forestry, mining and shipbuilding industries of BC; oil and gas and mining in Alberta; and agriculture, mining and oil in Saskatchewan.  The acquisition will add a new product line of bars and structurals to the current Samuel product line in Western Canada as well as strengthening our market position in carbon plate and carbon flat rolled.

Starting as a family business in 1910, Wilkinson has been a trusted steel supplier servicing customers in Western Canada and has a family history and culture similar to Samuel.  Bill Hughes, who is the current president of Wilkinson Steel and Metals with 35 years of Service Center experience, is well known and respected within the industry.  Bill will assume the role of Vice President and General Manager of Wilkinson Steel and Metals, which will operate as an independent division of Samuel, Son & Co., Limited and report to Tom McGrogan, President Canadian Service Centers.
