Sandvine adds VoLTE and VoWiFi support to access-agnostic, universal PCRF
WATERLOO, ON, Feb. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today released an enhanced Service Delivery Engine (SDE), which adds Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) support to the industry's only universal Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF).
Sandvine provides communications service providers (CSPs) with a universal PCRF – a policy controller that supports the 3GPP and PCMM standards as well as other interfaces such as RADIUS CoA and REST – in order to facilitate deployment in any fixed or mobile network. This deployment flexibility allows Sandvine's PCRF to enable innovative subscriber services such as shared data, data rollover, sponsored data and consistent policy control in any network, with any combination of access technologies. As network operators look to extend their services into additional access technologies, such as WiFi and LTE, this universal functionality is critical to delivering a consistently high-quality subscriber experience.
As a standalone PCRF, the latest SDE enhancements enable a number of specific VoLTE and VoWiFi use cases, including guaranteed quality of service (QoS). When deployed as part of a complete Sandvine network policy control solution, the additional network intelligence gained enables a number of additional use cases including, measurement of VoLTE and VoWiFi quality of experience (QoE) for both on-deck and over-the-top (OTT) services, as well as Single Number Reach, which permits use of a single phone number across multiple connected devices and access networks.
Sandvine's SDE is also the first PCRF with a drag-and-drop service creation GUI, known as ServiceDesigner. ServiceDesigner allows operators to rapidly define, modify, and deploy subscriber services to the network in minutes, resulting in shortened time to market and reduced implementation costs.
"VoLTE and VoWiFi deployments in 2015 and beyond will open a number of new service creation options for operators," said Don Bowman, CTO, Sandvine. "With Sandvine, operators deploying VoLTE or VoWiFi can now achieve universal policy control with a single intelligent and access-agnostic PCRF."
