Sandvine CEO: Facebook killer app for price certainty
More than 50-percent of smart phones communicate with Facebook each hour
TORONTO, June 5, 2012 /CNW/ - During a panel discussion on social networking yesterday at the Toronto Congress Centre, Sandvine's chief executive officer, Dave Caputo, pointed to Facebook as the killer app for mobile operators looking to implement price certainty for their subscribers. The social networking panel also included Jacob Glick, senior policy counsel Canada, Google Canada, Ken King, director telco & media convergence, SAS Institute and Keith McArthur, vice president social media, Rogers Communications Inc.
"We are finding that 50-percent of smart phones are actually connecting to Facebook every hour of every day, which perhaps is not surprising when you see Facebook icons on the home pages of most websites," said Dave Caputo, CEO, Sandvine. "Facebook is a highly valued application with predictable data volumes that require a minimum amount of bandwidth. This is the perfect scenario to implement tiered service plans that offer price certainty for subscribers and cost certainty for service providers."
Sandvine's network data is derived from a selection of their 200-plus communication service provider customers and aggregated in semiannual Global Internet Phenomena reports. Sandvine's customers get the benefit of similar detailed network data reports to monitor the traffic trends on their networks, both on an ad hoc and pre-configured basis.
"Sandvine is an example of a vendor devoted to serving the global communication service provider community whose solutions can help its customer implement business intelligence tailored to their needs," said Jeff Cotrupe, Global Program Director, ACEM and OSSCS, Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan.
As part of its business intelligence offerings, Sandvine's Network Analytics is a comprehensive business intelligence tool that measures network performance to help gain insight into network trends and subscriber usage with executive-style dashboards.
