Sandvine unveils world's first 2RU 100GE network policy control element
PTS 32000 proves big performance can come in a small package
WATERLOO, ON, Feb. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced the launch of the Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) 32000. This next generation of Policy Traffic Switch is the world's first 100GE network policy control element in a two rack unit (2RU) form factor.
Sandvine, the market leader in network policy control, continues its proud history of innovation with the introduction of the PTS 32000 which will offer service providers:
Extreme Scalability
- 200 Gbps of throughput with full line-rate inspection
- Up to 8 Tbps of throughput in a virtual switch cluster to meet the demands of the world's largest networks
- Support for up to 60 million concurrent flows
Deployment Versatility
- 100GE, 40GE, and 10GE interfaces to accommodate any 100GE migration strategy
- Suitable for installation at the edge, aggregation layer, or core of the network
- Support for mixed clustering with existing PTS 22000 and PTS 24000 hardware to simplify 100GE migration for existing Sandvine customers
Unmatched Efficiency
- Industry leading power consumption per Gbps of inspection
- Industry leading port density
- Common software across all PTS models allowing service providers to leverage operational knowledge and hands-on expertise to further reduce total cost of ownership
"The PTS 32000 is all about giving service providers options in how, where, and when they will deploy 100GE in their network." said Don Bowman, Sandvine CTO. "The latest generation of optics and silicon has allowed Sandvine to make a quantum leap over prototype-generation 100GE devices in both density and power efficiency."
A recent operator survey conducted by Infonetics Research revealed that service providers are expecting 100GE ports to grow from 5% of their router purchases in 2013 to 30% by 2015. The same study revealed that due to the increased pressure from video and cloud services many operators are re-architecting their metropolitan networks away from a single central "super PoP" and towards a number of large next-generation central offices made up of 5 to 10 central offices. These industry trends make the PTS 32000's interface diversity, form factor, and power efficiency the ideal solution for fixed networks in both mature and emerging markets.
The PTS 32000 combined with Sandvine's policy control software provides a powerful tool set that enables service providers to address the challenges and growth of today's broadband networks profitably, while meeting consumers' diverse application and device needs. The PTS is the backbone of Sandvine's network policy control solutions, which support a broad range of use cases for service creation, business intelligence and traffic optimization. Sandvine's solutions are currently deployed in 6 of the 10 largest cable MSOs in the world, which represent over one-third of global cable subscribers.
