saveONenergy EXCHANGE EVENT taking place this weekend at Canadian Tire stores across Ontario

TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Beginning today and running to Sunday, September 14, people across Ontario can bring in their old, inefficient dehumidifier to any Canadian Tire store and exchange it for a $50 coupon towards the purchase of a replacement ENERGY STAR^® qualified dehumidifier as part of theOntario Power Authority's (OPA) saveONenergy EXCHANGE EVENT.

Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Energy, visited the Carling Avenue Canadian Tire in Ottawa to launch this weekend's EXCHANGE EVENT.

In addition to saving $50 towards the purchase of a new energy-efficient appliance, participants may also enjoy additional ongoing savings of up to $50 per year in electricity costs when they replace their old unit with an ENERGY STAR^® qualified one.

To be eligible for the exchange, old dehumidifiers must be at least 10 years of age or older and in working condition. Old appliances will be recycled and decommissioned responsibly.

Consumers can also print out coupons from the saveONenergy website to access additional energy-saving product discounts all year long.

Ontario continues to be a North American energy conservation leader. Ontario's conservation efforts are helping families and businesses across the province become more active in reducing their energy consumption. Ontarians have conserved more than 2,400 megawatts of electricity since 2006 – the equivalent of powering more than 700,000 homes.
