Donation supports new data centre and ependymoma research
TORONTO, July 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Scalar Decisions, the Toronto-headquartered IT solutions integrator, today announced a $500,000 donation to name the Scalar Decisions Data Centre at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). This donation helps make the Data Centre a reality. The funds will also support ependymoma research at the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre and the Scalar Decisions Endowment Fund for Computational Medicine.
"Scalar Decisions has a strong history with SickKids in developing leading-edge IT facilities, so we are delighted to deepen our relationship with this gift," said Paul Kerr, President and CEO of Scalar Decisions. "I also know first-hand about the world-class research carried out at the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre. The gift, combined with the opening of the Scalar Decisions Data Centre, ensures that Scalar Decisions can have a lasting effect on healthcare research in Canada, and we are privileged to be a part of this."
The Scalar Decisions Data Centre will allow researchers access to state-of-the-art High Performance Computing, significantly speeding up many research endeavours at SickKids. These include analysis of genomes, discovery of genetic basis of disease, development of novel algorithms to stratify patients into risk groups, and enabling personalized therapies and better patient outcomes.
"We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with Scalar Decisions and we are grateful for their generous donation," said Adrian Horwood, Vice President, Corporate Partnerships, SickKids Foundation. "Donations from companies like Scalar Decisions make the work done at SickKids possible and it will ultimately impact children's health, both here and around the world."
