OTTAWA, July 15, 2014 /CNW/ - The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce it has signed an agreement with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), granting the organization non-exclusive rights to distribute International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards in Canada. UL is an SCC-accredited standards development organization (SDO).
"ISO and IEC standards are integral to the safe development and use of products and services in Canada and throughout the world," said SCC's Chief Executive Officer, John Walter. "SCC will continue to evaluate opportunities with SDOs and distribution channels to ensure that such standards are widely available for government and industry use."
This agreement enables Northbrook, Illinois-based UL to offer Canadian manufacturers and technical, electrical and electronic engineers, a convenient new channel to access critical standards information. ISO and IEC standards became available for purchase on July 1, 2014 through UL's online store at www.comm-2000.com.
"We are pleased to support greater Canadian access to these important IEC and ISO documents through our online channels. As a newly accredited standards developer in Canada, we feel it is important to provide additional ways for Canadians to access these essential documents," said Robert A. Williams, Vice President, Standards, UL. "Through this agreement we continue our commitment to supporting standards development in Canada".
