QUÉBEC, Jan. 9, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - For its 60th edition, the Québec Winter Carnival, in cooperation with Loto-Québec, will offer Carnival-goers a clever mix of new activities and reinvented classics, spread out throughout the Québec area. Not only will Québec be completely Carnival from January 31st to February 16th, but the city is now entering a pre-Carnival period! On January 31st, the festivities of the world's biggest winter celebration will be launched with a huge firework show. Carnival-goers will get to dance in a festive atmosphere and witness the Coronation of the Queen, a very emotional historical moment!
Eight Carnival streets will help to expand the party throughout Québec's neighborhoods. Bonhomme's Ice Palace, measuring 40 feet tall and counting 300 tons of ice, or an increase of 40% in the amount of ice compared to last year's Palace, will include the apartments of the King of the party and will be an undeniable must for visitors. On February 1st and 2nd, 2014, speed and thrill seekers will witness a competition that is part of Canada's largest snowmobile racing circuits, the Canada Snowcross Racing Association as some 200 racers will take on the course specifically developed for this race behind Lévis' Centre de Congrès et d'expositions. The last activity announced recently by the Carnival, but not the least, is the Battle of the Dukes, presented by Value Village, during which the organization will try setting a new world record for the world's biggest snowball fight! To win the title, 6,000 participants will have to take part in the activity on the Plains of Abraham on February 1st.
