School Elections of November 2, 2014 - Would you like to vote? Your name must be entered on the list of school electors

QUÉBEC CITY, Oct. 1, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, M^e Lucie Fiset, invites electors who would like to exercise their right to vote during the school elections of November 2, 2014, to ensure that their name is correctly entered on the list of electors of their school board.

To this end, the returning officer of the school board will send out a public notice latest October 4, 2014, indicating the location, days and times that the list can be consulted and where it will be possible to present an application for entry, correction or striking off.

Furthermore, latest October 4, 2007, every school board shall mail a notice to every address on its territory where one or more electors are entered. This notice reproduces the entries that appear on the list of electors so that its accuracy can be ascertained.

For its part, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer has mailed about 715,000 notices to addresses where no elector is entered on the permanent list of electors. Persons domiciled at these addresses are invited to contact the returning officer to find out if they are entitled to be entered on the list of school electors.

The potential period during which it will be possible to ask for a change on the list of electors goes from October 4 to October 14 2014. The board of revisors must receive the electors on October 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The others days during which the board will be accessible have to be confirmed with the returning officer.

An application for entry, correction or striking off can be filed by the person personally, by his spouse, by a relative or by a person who cohabits with him. In the case of an application for entry, two supporting documents are required: one mentioning the name and date of birth of the person concerned and the other, the name and address of his current domicile. An application for striking off can also be filed by an elector who is entered on the list of electors of the same electoral division.

An elector whose child receives educational services provided by a Francophone school board is registered on this school board's electoral list. Similarly he is will be registered on the electoral list of an Anglophone school board if his child attends one of its schools.

An elector who has no child admitted to the educational services of a Francophone or an Anglophone school board will be registered by default on the electoral list of the Francophone school board. However, at the latest on October 14, this elector can ask to be registered on the electoral list of the school board which services the territory of the Anglophone school board where he lives. This voting option will be effected by sending a notice in writing to the returning officer.

To be a qualified elector in a school board, a person must satisfy the following conditions on polling day:

• be 18 years old;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be domiciled in Québec for at least six months;
• be domiciled on the territory of the school board;
• not be under curatorship;
• not be disqualified from voting.

The list of school electors is established by the returning officer of the school board from the list of domiciled electors provided by the Chief Electoral Officer.
