MONTRÉAL, May 15, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The office of the city council chair celebrates school perseverance!
With the end of the school year so near, more than 120 young students, who attend schools from our five school boards, will be invited to come to city hall, to attend a ceremony highlighting their determination and their academic efforts over this past year.
The city council chair, Ms. Cathy Wong, and the vice-chair, Mr. Sterling Downey, will meet groups of perseverant students who were selected by their respective school boards. During the ceremony, they will be invited to sign the city's Golden Book and they will receive an honorary certificate. For a third consecutive year, the city council chair will highlight the academic perseverance of young high school students.
"I would like to extend my most heartfelt congratulations to these students who have shown great determination in their efforts to succeed academically. They owe this accomplishment to their exemplary work, of course, but also to their families, to school staff and to all those around them who have supported and motivated them to persevere academically", said Cathy Wong.
"The municipal administration plays an integral role in academic success through Montréal's Policy on Children, which supports the fulfillment of our youth, and by funding local partners who provide our youth, especially the most vulnerable, with quality services and activities that help them reach their full potential", added Mr. Downey.
The first ceremony was held today, at 5:30 p.m., for students from the Lester B. Pearson and English-Montréal School Boards. The next event will be held on May 22 for perseverant students from the Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys. The perseverance of students from the Commission scolaire de Montréal and the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Île will be highlighted on June 5 and June 11.
