The Honourable Steven Fletcher announces funding for commemorative projects
WINNIPEG, Nov. 5, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Member of Parliament for Charleswood–St. James–Assiniboia–Headingley, today announced Government of Canada support for Veterans' Week commemorative and educational activities in Winnipeg. MP Fletcher made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs.
Presented by Unit 283 (Assiniboia) of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS), the activities will include school visits, a poetry competition and a remembrance church service leading up to Remembrance Day. A commemorative ceremony and dinner will also be held November 9, 2014, to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of Canada's engagement in the Second World War. More than 600 people are expected to take part in the week's programming, including up to 100 local Veterans, 100 still-serving Canadian Armed Forces members and 75 youth.
