- To date $2.8 million has been granted to public schools across Canada
- Charitable organization presents 2017 recipients in funding for Drama, Recreation, Extracurricular, Arts, Music and Sports
TORONTO, May 31, 2017 /CNW/ - For thousands of elementary students across the country, the next school year brings many new opportunities and learning experiences to look forward to. Once again, thanks to an incredible amount of funding being presented by S'Cool Life Fund, kids from Newfoundland to British Columbia will be playing musical instruments, acting in school plays and scoring goals in sport. Since 2005, the non-profit Canadian organization has been dedicated to providing the necessary funding for equipment and programs that create a more enjoyable and rewarding experience for students. "Nothing is more crucial to round out a child's academic calendar than important extracurricular activities," stated John Bitove, Founder and Chairman. "S'Cool Life Fund is now celebrating 12 years of giving and we are proud that we have granted 1,082 Canadian public schools, over $2.8 million to help give our children the most well-rounded education possible. With an additional 38 schools receiving funding this year, we have continued to help enrich the lives of kids from coast to coast."
Schools who received grants previously were happy to share their appreciation. "Due to the generous grant from S'Cool Life Fund, Buttonville Public School (Markham, ON) was able to purchase 19 violins ranging from 1/8 to 1/2 size and one 1/4 size cello for the school. Currently two Grade-3 classes have had a full year of instruction on strings and will be performing in the Spring Concert in June. Thanks to S'Cool Life Fund for making this possible!"
Kullik Ilihakvik School (Cambridge Bay, NU) wrote when they received their 2016 grant, "We are looking forward to purchasing equipment that will enhance our recreation and extracurricular activities through drama, art and sports. Your kind consideration and assigned grant will help us meet our goal of giving students choices that enhance their learning and experiences outside of school hours."
A note from Dr. Morris Gibson School (Okotoks, AB) said, "Thank you for your considerable grant donation and for helping to support our school with the Inspired Yoga program. It was a great way to infuse mindfulness, activity and support our divisional goals of social-emotional well being."
Since S'Cool Life Fund's inception, more than a thousand schools have been awarded grants in support of students' DREAMS - Drama, Recreation, Extracurricular, Arts, Music and Sports. Highlights from this year's grants include:
- Instruments used in music therapy for special needs children
- Art supplies for a wall mural commemorating Canada's 150th birthday
- Media equipment for a school play production on social issues such as bullying, anxiety and stress
