VANCOUVER, June 12, 2015 /CNW/ - imagine1day (www.imagine1day.org) is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Elliott as the charity's first-ever Chief Executive Officer. imagine1day - founded by Chip and Shannon Wilson in 2007 – is working towards a goal of ensuring all Ethiopians have access to education, free of foreign aid, by 2030. The recently created CEO role is intended to lead the organization through its next phase of growth.
As one of the few international organizations headquartered in Vancouver, B.C, the charity underwent an exhaustive global search to secure dedicated leadership in bringing the organization even closer towards its 2030 goal. Mr. Elliott comes to imagine1day with more than 20 years of experience in designing and implementing sustainable community engagement programs, including sponsorship, marketing, fundraising and external relations. Scott has been involved in international development for 30 years through Canada World Youth – an educational exchange program between Canada and developing countries, and currently serves as a member of its Board of Directors.
"We underwent a very thorough search in order to ensure we had the right leadership in place to guide the team through this very important stage of growth," said Chip Wilson. "Scott's deep understanding of the not for profit sector and his long-time passion for creating change by empowering people and communities make him an excellent fit for imagine1day. imagine1day is an international development organization enabling primary education in Ethiopia and is distinctive in its approach, which holds leadership development as a key element of program implementation. The organization's program activities include school construction, in depth teacher training, and capacity building with its direct partners in the rural communities in Ethiopia, ensuring self-sustainability every step of the way. As a direct implementer in Ethiopia, imagine1day has an on the ground team to lead and manage the implementation of all of its projects. Since its inception in 2007, imagine1day has worked with 226 partner schools, 27 of them built from the ground up, established 1,130 school clubs, provided 45,420 books, 129 science kits and 109 sports kits and transformed 112,935 people annually through education and training.
Chip and Shannon Wilson remain on the Board of Directors of imagine1day and will continue to provide ongoing strategic direction and support as the organization moves through this expansion phase.
