Scouts Canada Foundation honours scholarship recipients
Eighteen deserving Scouting youth across Canada will soon receive $1,000 each in support of their post-secondary studies
OTTAWA, June 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The Scouts Canada Foundation announced it will award its annual scholarships to eighteen outstanding students involved in Canadian Scouting. Criteria for selection included academic achievement, demonstrated Scouting history, involvement and achievement, and community service. Applicants also submitted a 200-word essay on the value of Scouting in their lives. The Foundation Scholarship Committee made their selections from over one hundred applications nationwide.
"I continue to be impressed by the quality of our scholarship recipients," said Scouts Canada Foundation President and Executive Director John Rietveld. "These Scouts Canada youth represent the values of Scouting including service to the community beyond their Scouting involvement. We are proud to support their continuing education and wish them all the best."
Scholarship recipient and Venturer Keegan McCallum couldn't agree more. "I have become a stronger, more able, and better world citizen through Scouting," says Keegan.
Funding for the Scouts Canada Foundation Scholarships is derived from the Fellowship Program through which individuals donate annually in support of these scholarships and other special projects.
The Scouts Canada Foundation was established to raise, invest and administer funds to support special projects not within the field of normal day-to-day Scouting operations. Corporations and individuals may make either general bequests to the Foundation, or donations for specific projects.
