Search for New Meridian President and CEO Announced by Board of Directors
ST. CATHARINES, ON, Feb. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - It was announced today by Don Ariss, Chair of the Meridian Board of Directors, that a search has been launched for a new President and Chief Executive Officer of Meridian, Ontario's largest credit union.
The new President and CEO will replace Sean Jackson, who has been away on medical leave since September 2012, as a result of a recurrence of cancer.
"Meridian has continued to perform well and grow under the leadership of Acting CEO Bill Maurin during Sean's absence," Ariss said.
However, Ariss said that in keeping with its fiduciary responsibility and duty of care to Meridian and its Members, the Board has decided that it is time to move forward and put in place a permanent CEO.
"Sean recognizes that Meridian cannot wait indefinitely for his return and agrees that Meridian needs to move forward. It is the desire of both Sean and the Board that he will continue to play an advisor role to Meridian in the future," Ariss said.
Meridian is one of Canada's largest credit unions. Since opening its doors in 2005, assets under Meridian management have grown from less than $4 billion to more than $10 billion. Meridian now has 64 Branches and seven Commercial Business Centres in Ontario communities from Windsor to Ottawa.
The Board will formally recognize Jackson for his commitment as Meridian's CEO, and his contributions to the cooperative movement in Canada at Meridian's Annual General Meeting on April 22, 2014 in Barrie.
