Sears Canada Advised of a Potential Safety Hazard Relating to Certain
Frigidaire® Electric Smoothtop Cooktops and Slide-in Ranges and Electrolux
ICON® Electric Smoothtop Cooktops
TORONTO, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - Sears Canada has been advised by the Electrolux Canada Corp. of a potential safety hazard relating to certain Frigidaire® electric smoothtop cooktops and slide-in ranges, and Electrolux ICON® electric smoothtop cooktops, all with rotary knobs and digital displays. It has been discovered that liquids pooling under the control knobs can cause a surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers
The ranges were sold through Sears Canada retail stores, online at www.sears.ca, and through the Sears Canada catalogue between January 2005 and October 2010. The affected model numbers and corresponding Sears item numbers are as follows:
MFG # | Serial Number | Sears Stock # |
CGLES389EB | NF501xxxxx-NF652xxxxx | 29669 |
CGLES389ES | NF501xxxxx-NF652xxxxx | 29662 |
CGLES389FB | NF601xxxxx-NF852xxxxx | 29479 |
CGLES389FS | NF601xxxxx-NF952xxxxx | 29472 |

The model number can be found inside the oven door on the left side of the unit or on the underside surface on the cooktop models.
In the interest of consumer safety, Sears Canada urges customers who own an affected range to cease use immediately and unplug the range from the electrical outlet or power off the cooktops at the circuit breaker.
Sears Customers should contact Electrolux at 1-800-777-9241, Monday through Saturday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM ET., for information on how to obtain a free repair kit. Alternatively, customers can visit the company's websites at www.cooktoprecall.ca or www.rappelcuisinieresurfacelisse.ca (for Electrolux ICON Models) or www.smoothtoprangerecall.ca or www.rappelcuisinieresurfacelisse.ca (for Frigidaire Models).
