Sears Canada Advises Customers of a Voluntary Recall Issued by Dimplex North
America Limited on Plug-in Remote Control Receivers included with certain
Dimplex, Electric Fireplaces, Stoves and Fireplace Inserts

TORONTO, March 16 /CNW/ - Sears Canada Inc. has been advised by Dimplex North America Limited of a voluntary recall and replacement program involving plug-in remote control receivers included with certain Dimplex, Electraflame, Symphony, Optiflame, Electralog and Charmglow branded electric fireplaces, stoves and fireplace inserts. Dimplex advises that in some instances, the plug-in remote control receiver can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Consumers should stop using the plug-in remote control receiver.

Some of the affected Dimplex electric fireplaces, stoves and fireplace inserts were sold at Sears Canada retail stores as well as through the Sears Canada catalogue and online at www.sears.ca between 1998 and 2009 at a Sears regular price of $199 to $1,499.

Dimplex has not received any reports of injury, but does have multiple reported incidents with damage that extends beyond the failure mode of the product.

In the interest of consumer safety, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled plug-in remote control receivers and unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet. Consumers should also unplug the fireplace from the receiver. Electric fireplaces and stoves can still safely be operated by plugging them directly to the electrical outlet.
