Sears Canada Holds Customer Take-Back Event at Sears Locations in Ontario To
Encourage Environmentally Responsible Disposal of Electronic Waste

TORONTO, June 25 /CNW/ - Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC), in conjunction with Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), Ontario Power Authority (OPA), and Sony Canada, is offering customers a solution to recycling unwanted and outdated electronics in an environmentally safe manner, through its electronic waste (e-waste) take-back event being held at participating Sears locations across Ontario. The event, which is being held for two consecutive weekends beginning June 26-27 and ending July 3-4, invites residents and customers to drop off their e-waste, anything from a pager to a television, to be safely and securely recycled.

"As a company, we continue to look for new ways to promote environmental sustainability. This e-waste take-back initiative is a great way to engage our customers in e-waste disposal that lessens the impact on the environment and introduce energy efficient products and tips that customers can easily incorporate into their homes."

Customers who drop off their e-waste will receive special coupons for discounts on energy efficient products including Sony BRAVIA (R) televisions, rebates on power bars to help reduce the consumption of stand-by power, and have the chance to win the energy efficient, Sony Bravia EX700 Series LCD HDTV and Blu Ray Home Theatre.

Many customers may not know that a harmless looking computer monitor could be packing up to seven pounds of toxic lead and that common household electronics may contain hazardous substances including arsenic, mercury, beryllium and cadmium. Sears and its supporting agencies, through this province-wide event, are sending a message that recycling your e-waste is simply the right thing to do.

"Through our network of approved collectors and processors we can assure Ontarians that their e-waste is safely, securely and responsibly reused and recycled, resulting in a cleaner Ontario today and tomorrow."
