Sears Canada Launches Coast to Coast Multi-Channel Fundraising Campaign to Support Alberta Flood Relief Efforts Français
TORONTO, June 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC) is making it easy for Canadians to donate to the Red Cross to support flood relief efforts in Alberta by accepting donations at all Sears Canada retail stores across Canada and by phone by calling Sears toll-free number, 1-800-26-SEARS (1-800-267-3277).
In-store, donations in denominations of $1 or $10 may be made by cash or any major credit card. Upon request a tax receipt can be issued by the Red Cross for donations of $10 or more for donations made on a Sears Card or Sears MasterCard, as Sears can only pass on information to the Red Cross from Sears credit card holders, with their permission. By phone, only credit cards may be used, and receipts will be handled in the same way. Donations made on a Sears Card or Sears MasterCard can earn valuable Sears Club points. Canadians visiting www.sears.ca will be provided with information on how to donate. Sears Canada is also making a corporate donation based on what its customers and associates donate.
"Although the floods have been localized in Alberta, Canadians coast to coast are expressing their desire to help, and we are fully engaging the Sears organization to help facilitate donations to the Red Cross from Canadians, no matter where they live," said Calvin McDonald, President and CEO, Sears Canada. "Sears nationwide operations, including stores, catalogue and online, provide an easy way for customers and associates to express their generosity while visiting one of our many touch-points."
"Red Cross volunteers and staff from across the country are working around the clock to help families devastated by ongoing flooding in Alberta," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "We are grateful to Sears for making it easier for Canadians to support ongoing relief and future recovery operations in flood-affected communities."
Additional Support Initiatives from Sears and Special Discount
In addition to the fundraising campaign, Sears is sending 5 trucks to affected areas, donating blankets, pillows, clothing and footwear, among other items, to the Red Cross, to assist with immediate flood relief needs. Sears has also arranged for special logistic and delivery arrangements to get much-needed merchandise to Sears stores quickly. To help impacted families get back on their feet, for one week beginning Wednesday, June 26 until Tuesday, July 2, Sears Canada is extending a special discount to customers shopping at all our full-line department stores in the area, namely North Hill, Marlborough, South Centre, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, giving them 40% off the currently ticketed price of most apparel and footwear, 50% off for Sears card holders.
