Sears Offers HST Protection Program to Help Homeowners in British Columbia
Customers Can Ready Their Homes for Winter Now Worry-free with Sears No Fee "HST Protection" Offer
TORONTO, Oct. 20 /CNW/ - With the winter season quickly approaching, British Columbia homeowners need not put off those essential home improvements to potentially avoid paying higher sales tax ahead of the B.C. referendum scheduled for next year. Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC) today launched the HST Protection Program for all installed purchases of home heating systems, roofing, replacement windows and doors as a commitment to British Columbia homeowners that they will receive an amount equal to the incremental tax paid if the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) is repealed by September 30, 2011.
"Sears HST Protection Program is designed to provide peace-of-mind to homeowners who are concerned that they may have been able to pay less tax on home installed products and services by waiting until the September 2011 referendum," said Scott Nicholson, Vice-President, Sears Canada Inc. "Now they can proceed with confidence knowing that Sears will refund the difference should the tax be repealed by September."
There is no fee to participate in the program. Citizens of British Columbia who buy installed home comfort systems, roofing, replacement windows and doors from Sears will automatically receive a guarantee specified in writing as "HST Protection" in their Sears Purchase Agreement. If the HST is repealed by September 30, 2011, customers simply call their local area sales unit indicated on their Agreement to file a claim by December, 2011. Sears will then refund the customer the difference between what they paid for their installed home improvements including HST compared to what they would have paid before the introduction of the HST.
To make home installation more affordable, Sears reminds customers that financing offers are available when they purchase their installed home improvements using their Sears Card or Sears MasterCard.
