Second Harvest Partners With Loblaws® Inc., This Holiday Season, for Turkey Drive - Feeding Those in Need in Toronto
TORONTO, Dec. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - While you're doing your grocery shopping this weekend, watch for volunteers dressed as turkeys in the frozen meat department of select Loblaws® stores. Second Harvest's 12th annual Turkey Drive, in partnership with Loblaw, kicks off Saturday, December 6th.
Shoppers can select and donate a turkey that volunteers will load into the refrigerated Second Harvest truck on-site. That turkey will then be delivered to Torontonians in need through food banks and meal programs this holiday season.
"We are thrilled to partner with Loblaws, for the twelfth year in a row, to feed those in need over the holiday season," said Debra Lawson, Executive Director of Second Harvest. "What shoppers have really come to love about Turkey Drive is that they get to select a turkey that will become someone's holiday meal. Providing healthy food to those who are not able to afford what so many of us naturally come to expect, embraces what the holiday season is all about."
"Every year we look forward to the opportunity to help relieve hunger in our communities through our partnership with Second Harvest," says Derrick Pittman, VP Loblaws®, "In addition to our annual Loblaws Holiday Food Drive, the turkey drive helps put food on the tables of those who need it most this holiday season."
For each turkey donated, Loblaw® Inc. will donate $2, up to a maximum of $10,000 in funds to Second Harvest.
