Security Measures Begin to Take Effect for G8 Summit
HUNTSVILLE, ON, June 20 /CNW/ - The Integrated Security Unit (ISU) closed the Controlled Access Zone (CAZ) around the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville on June 20 in preparation for the arrival of world leaders.
There will be no public access to the resort for the general public from now until after the G8 Summit on June 28. A small number of people who live within the CAZ will need to show accreditation in order to enter and leave the area.
A plan is in place to ensure emergency services will not be impacted.
Huntsville region residents are reminded that a larger Interdiction Zone around the Deerhurst Resort will also be in effect before the G8 Summit and accreditation will also be required for entry and exit.
In addition, marine restrictions will be put in place on Peninsula Lake in the upcoming days and road restrictions on a portion of Highway 60 and roads leading to Deerhurst on June 23. Residents and cottagers are encouraged to visit the ISU web site for the latest information on road closures and restrictions at www.g8-g20isu.ca.
The ISU is encouraging area residents to avoid these areas.
