"Security perimeters" around abortion centers in Quebec: Quebec Life Coalition will fight Bill 595 with all the means at its disposal

MONTREAL, Feb. 29, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Quebec Life Coalition, a Montreal-based non-profit which offers side-walk counselling for abortion-minded women in Montreal, has learned on February 24 that Carole Poirier of the Parti Québécois will, in the name of "security", present a bill to stop our organisation from offering abortion alternatives outside Quebec's 47 abortion facilities. Through the creation of "buffer zones", the PQ hopes to resolve the "accessibility" and "security" issues around the facilities.

Except that, to our knowledge:

• There have been no cases of obstruction of access to abortion centers in Quebec in recent decades;
• There have been no cases of physical or verbal abuse near or inside abortion centers (excepting, of course, the tens of thousands of deaths by dismemberment or aspiration of unborn children, in addition to the physical, psychological and spiritual wounds suffered by the women who have procured an abortion);

On the other hand, we know that abortion is a procedure that is neither safe nor medically necessary:

• abortion is not indicated as necessary for curing any illness;
• this intervention has no benefits (unless you consider the death of an innocent human to be a "benefit");
• this intervention is more dangerous for women than childbirth. (Follow this link to read more about the harmful effects of abortion)

In addition, Bill 595 will only prevent peaceful and law-abiding individuals from expressing their views near abortion centers: The rare cases of violence which have occurred elsewhere, which some are only too eager to report, will not be prevented by any injunction. Ultimately, this kind of law only gags the expression of unpopular truths at precisely those locations where these truths most need to be heard.

Quebec Life Coalition will defend its right to assist pregnant women in need, even at the stage where they have "decided" to abort their child. Women often abort under pressure from relatives or from lack of resources - our peaceful presence near abortion centers, far from being harmful, is a benefit to these women and to the entire community. We will therefore fight this bill with all the means we have at our disposal.
