BEACONSFIELD, QC, Oct. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Senator Larry Smith announced a financial contribution of up to $50,000 for the Beaconsfield War Memorial, dedicated to the men and women who have served and sacrificed in all of Canada's military operations. This funding is provided through the Community War Memorial Program.
"It is our duty to remember and pay tribute to all men and women who serve Canada so selflessly," mentioned Minister Fantino. "The memorials built across Canada reflect our gratitude and respect toward the accomplishments and sacrifices made by this nation's bravest citizens at home and abroad."
The Heroes Park project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2014. The memorial will be the central element of this new park commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War and honouring all local men and women who served Canada. Complementing the memorial, the Paths of Heroes will recognize police, firefighters and other first responders who have also served and sacrificed in service to the community.
"I am pleased to be here today to honor local men and women who have fought for our freedom and for all those who dedicate their lives to serve and protect," said Senator Smith. "We believe that this memorial, and others like it throughout the country, will bring awareness to young and old on the importance of remembering the courage and sacrifices of our heroes."
Through the Community War Memorial Program, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to further commemorate the courage and sacrifices of our Veterans and members of our armed forces by bringing communities together to build new cenotaphs and monuments.
Applications to this program can be submitted at any time during the year and are reviewed on a quarterly basis. Interested non-profit groups and other organizations may be eligible for funding.
