Senator Norman Doyle Marks Veterans' Week 2012 with a Candlelight Ceremony in St. John's

ST. JOHN'S, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Canadians across the country are taking the time to remember and honour our Veterans during Veterans' Week 2012, from November 5 to 11. Norman Doyle, Senator for Newfoundland and Labrador and the residents of Caribou Memorial Veterans' Pavilion and their families remembered with a candlelight ceremony today.

"The events that take place from coast to coast to coast during Veterans' Week and all year-round help ensure that the legacy of our Veterans lives on," said Minister Blaney. "Our Government is dedicated to honouring both our Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces personnel who proudly defend our values around the world. Their service is a point of national pride for all of us."

This year marks significant historical military milestones with the 95^th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the 95^th anniversary of the capture of Passchendaele and the 70^th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid. Each year, from November 5 to 11, Canadians join together to celebrate Veterans' Week.

"This evening we take time to remember and honour the brave men and women who served Canada during times of war and peace," said Senator Doyle. "We reflect on their contributions and sacrifices and we thank them for their courage and dedication."

The year marks the 2^nd annual candlelight ceremony held by staff and residents of Caribou Veterans' Memorial Pavilion to mark Veterans' Week. Caribou Memorial Veterans' Pavilion provides care and services to eligible war Veterans. The facility is managed by Eastern Health and provides a full spectrum of care including long-term and palliative care, occupational therapy programs, pastoral care, psychology and recreation programs.
