Seneca partners with fashion professor Zoran Dobric for RED: Emerging Designers Showcase
TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - Seneca College has partnered with veteran designer and Seneca professor Zoran Dobric to offer recent fashion alumni a platform to launch their careers at World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW).
RED: Emerging Designers Showcase, taking place at 3 p.m. on October 23 at David Pecaut Square in Toronto, is a runway show that will feature five pieces each from eight recent Seneca School of Fashion alumni. Dobric, who has taught fashion design at Seneca for eight years and who is also showing at WMCFW, took on this project with a goal of giving new designers an opportunity to display their talents to an industry audience who otherwise likely would not see their work.
"After recently completing my master's degree at the London College of Fashion I am proud to say that Seneca graduates are at the same level as their international peers," said Dobric. "Similar to the world's most renowned design schools, at Seneca we support up-and-coming talent by partnering with Canadian designers who mentor our students."
Each spring Seneca hosts an annual fashion show for graduating students to present their capsule collections to their peers. This year however, the School of Fashion, including design faculty David Dixon and Philip Sparks, is further increasing their support to recent grads by providing them with the opportunity to connect with key industry leaders at WMCFW.
"We are delighted to continue the relationship with our fashion students well beyond their studies at Seneca," said Gitte Hansen, Chair of Seneca's School of Fashion. "This runway show is part of our commitment to offer exceptional entrepreneurial experiences to our students and alumni."
Seneca's School of Fashion graduates have participated as students in several North American shows such as the Télio National Design Competition in Montreal and Fashion Art Toronto, as well as internationally at the Hempel competition for young designers in Beijing.
The eight designers chosen to participate in the showcase are: Jing Zhao, Doreen To, Feyanki Law, Jiaxin Xu, Ruby Tsai, Jing Zhao, Ronald Tam and Wanwei Huang. They have drawn inspiration from their contemporaries, their social environment and their vision for the future of fashion. Their influences range from architecture and technology, and their collections feature origami, colour blocked and hand-cut leather.
