MONTREAL, Sept. 29, 2017 /CNW/ - Today in the Court of Quebec, Ismael Habib, 29, was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment for attempting to leave Canada to commit an act of terrorism, contrary to section 83.181 of the Criminal Code.
He was also sentenced to one year in prison for making a false or misleading statement to obtain a passport, contrary to section 57(2) of the Criminal Code.
He was charged in March 2016 and has been in custody since his arrest.
Both parties have 30 days to decide whether to appeal.
