Seprotech Granted US Patent for the Removal of Nitrogen from Wastewater
This water treatment technology is designed to virtually eliminate nitrogen from municipal wastewater in a highly cost effective manner. Nitrogen in various chemical states is toxic to fish and other aquatic life forms and is responsible for fish kills in lakes and rivers. In addition, the presence of various forms of nitrogen in drinking water such as wells is associated with elevated risks of heart disease and "blue baby syndrome" in humans.
Given the human health risks and severe environmental impact, the wastewater treatment standards for Nitrogen are coming under increased scrutiny resulting in higher discharge controls for Nitrates and Ammonia Nitrogen into lakes, rivers and groundwater.
"The award of this patent further demonstrates Seprotech's commitment to our strategic vision and is the result of our continued investment in research and development," said Martin J. Hauschild, President & CEO of Seprotech. "Seprotech has already begun to commercialize this technology and we have several installations providing strong supportive data."
"This technology can also be combined with Seportech's proprietary Advanced Phosphorus Removal technology in order to treat wastewater to drinking water quality standards," continued Hauschild. "Seprotech is seeking licensing opportunities world-wide for this and our other patented technologies in order to fully capture the commercial potential of its growing intellectual property base and support the conservation of global water resources."
Seprotech is a provider of pre-engineered water and wastewater treatment plants to the land development, resource sector and military market place, including CrystalBlue(TM) membrane-based water recycling systems and the ROTORDISK(R) wastewater treatment systems.
