NEW HEATHER'S PICKS
Indigo CEO and Chief Booklover Heather Reisman is announcing two new Heather's Pick for September: This is Happy by Camilla Gibb and A Modern Way to Cook by Anna Jones.
In this profoundly moving memoir, Camilla Gibb, the award-winning, bestselling author of Sweetness in the Belly and The Beauty of Humanity Movement, another Heather's Pick, reveals the intensity of her grief as her family at once grows and falls apart. Gibb's memoir tells the tale of the support system she builds as a suddenly single mother, a family constituted by a small cast of resilient souls - adults broken in the way many of us are, but united in love for Gibb's child. Gibb finds new meaning and beauty in life as she looks back upon past moments of sadness and joy, alienation and belonging, to forge a promising future for her daughter, her family, and herself.
Raw and unflinching, intelligent and humane, This Is Happy asks the big questions and finds answers in the tender moments of the everyday.
From the author of the brilliant A Modern Way to Eat comes the second Heather's Pick for the month of September, A Modern Way to Cook. In this brilliant new collection of delicious, healthy and inspiring vegetarian recipes, Anna Jones makes clean, nourishing, vegetable-centred food that is realistic for any night of the week. Anna's new book is a truly beautiful and practical collection for anyone who wants to put dinner on the table quickly, without fuss, trips to specialty shops or too much washing up, but still strives to eat healthy food that tastes as good as it looks, and is for you.

INDIGO'S STAFF PICKS OF THE MONTH
Starting this month, we have rebranded our Spotlight program as Indigo's Staff Pick of the Month. If you're looking for your next favourite book, Indigo's Staff Picks program is the perfect place to start. Each month we will choose the book that Indigo employees at home office and in the field love the most, and what we think our customers will love. Click here to learn more about Indigo's Staff Pick of the Month program.
We are pleased to announce that September's Staff Pick of the Month title is The Martian by Andy Weir. The Martian is a work of fiction that centers on astronaut Mark Watney, a botanist and engineer who finds himself alone on Mars after his Ares 3 mission team abandoned him when they believed he had died in a violent dust storm. Except – he survived. Watney wakes up alone on Mars, and needs to figure out how to survive on an unlivable planet in a shelter that was built to last 30 days – significantly less than the four years it would take to send a rescue mission from earth (if NASA even knew he was alive).
The book is extremely compelling, laugh-out-loud funny, causes frequent heart palpitations, and even gets a stamp of approval from Canada's (and Indigo's) favourite astronaut Chris Hadfield, who said The Martian was "a book I just couldn't put down! It has the very rare combination of a good, original story, interestingly real characters and fascinating technical accuracy…reads like 'MacGyver' meets 'Mysterious Island.'"
You'll love this book if you also loved The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey, former Spotlight pick Red Rising by Pierce Brown, another former Spotlight pick Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, The Revenant by Michael Punke and, of course, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield.
