The award was announced during the annual international congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embriology (ESHRE), taking place in Rome June 27 - 30, 2010. The winner of the SSIF Award, in collaboration with ESHRE, will be announced at ESHRE 2011.
The rules and eligibility criteria are published on http://www.ssifaward.org. The SSIF Award Committee will assess the applications and draw up the shortlist of candidates.
Through this award, SSIF intends to acknowledge the great capacity and commitment of those who are capable of transferring medical and scientific knowledge to their peers, which will, in turn, translate into the best healthcare for patients. More than 70 million couples around the world experience fertility problems and, although effective treatments are available, only one in five couples receive any kind of medical care.
Communication skills and an open attitude are fundamental for physicians involved in continual medical education.
"Medical education has never been more important than today," said Jean Daniel Baki, Secretary of the Board of Directors, "and the Foundation's Board of Directors feels relevant and important to focus on the true core of medical education: those people who are delivering an excellent work in teaching and making sure the medical profession receives the best continuing education."
Serono Symposia International Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Geneva (Switzerland). It was founded with the intention of disseminating the most innovative achievements and potential developments of medical and scientific research through conferences, training courses, online courses and publications.
