Settlement Discussions to Occur in Federal Administrative Segregation Class Actions
TORONTO, July 10, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada and the plaintiffs in three class actions on behalf of prisoners that have been placed in administrative segregation jointly announce that the parties have started preliminary settlement discussions.
The plaintiffs' motions for summary judgment in Brazeau v Canada, scheduled for June 2018 and Reddock v Canada, scheduled for October 2018, have been adjourned until February and July 2019, respectively, to facilitate settlement discussions. The prosecution of Gallone v Canada has also been suspended while the parties explore settlement.
The Brazeau v. Canada case was started in summer 2015 by Koskie Minsky LLP in Toronto. The Gallone v Canada case was started in February 2016 by the Trudel Johnston Lespérance firm in Montreal. The Reddock v Canada case was started in March 2017 by Koskie Minsky LLP and McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto.
