Severe storm disrupts electricity supply to Gravenhurst residents
AJAX, ON, July 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Veridian customers in the Town of Gravenhurst are without power due to the severe weather system that is affecting parts of central and southern Ontario.
Veridian has received a number of calls and emails from customers reporting damaged poles and downed wires. Veridian emergency response crews are working to assess the damage and to carry out repair work. Due to the intensity of the weather system and the volume of damage reports, additional Veridian staff from Durham Region has been dispatched to support local Gravenhurst service crews.
Projections for the timing of service restoration are not available at this time.
Residents are asked to exercise extreme caution around damaged poles and downed wires. All fallen wires should be considered live and dangerous. Residents are urged to report the locations of fallen wires to Veridian's 24-hour Outage Hotline by calling 1-866-579-6819.
