TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2015 /CNW/ - "You could call this a banner day!" says Kevin Demsey of Shadybrook Farms. His Shorthorn herd from Brome, Quebec, cleaned up at the National Shorthorn Show at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF) winning 12 banners in total, including the Grand Champion Bull, the Grand Champion Female and Supreme Champion for the bull.
The Supreme Champion is chosen between the Grand Champion Bull and the Grand Champion Female. Since Dempsey had both champions, one was bound to be named Supreme. "Today it was his turn," Dempsey comments about his fittingly named bull Shadybrook Hot Shot 88A! For Shadybrook Isobel 25A, her championship run at the 2015 RAWF ends with Grand Champion Female.
Dempsey's family has been showing Shorthorns at The Royal for longer than he can remember. He recalls attending the Royal as a child and eventually he took over as herdsman.
"We're consistently competitive," Dempsey admits. "The Royal is a special show and the show we work towards." Following The Royal, Shadybrook Farms will be heading south to the North American Shorthorn Show in Kentucky. But, Dempsey and his Shorthorns will be back at The Royal next year hoping for more supreme success.
The Royal is supported in part by the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario.
The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world's largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show. This year, the 93rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair runs November 6-15, 2015 at Exhibition Place, Toronto.
