ShareDDB 2012 Raises Nearly $38,000 For Local Charities
Employee creativity the driving force behind agency art crawl and silent auction
TORONTO, VANCOUVER AND EDMONTON, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Hundreds of employee hours and three province's worth of creative auction items has resulted in $38,000 raised for local charities as part of DDB Canada's annual ShareDDB fundraiser, organized by the agency's Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton offices.
A twist on the traditional fundraiser, ShareDDB is an art crawl and silent auction by DDB Canada, the most creatively acclaimed marketing communications agency in Canada, featuring a range of unique auction items and services, conceptualized, personalized and realized by agency employees as well as its partners and vendors.
This year's fundraiser saw over 300 employee-driven auction items, including DJ and ski lessons, hand crafted oil paintings, a 2013 calendar featuring male DDB staff members, a bejeweled axe, and the highlight of the Toronto office's event: a day-long job, office and responsibility swap between the agency's national president and COO, David Leonard, and one lucky employee.
"I'm extremely proud of our employees and partners across all of our offices, whose commitment and generosity fueled the success of this year's ShareDDB, raising an unprecedented $38,000 for local charities," says David Leonard, national president and COO, DDB Canada. "Once again, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of time and imagination that went into each and every auction item, truly showcasing DDB Canada's culture of creativity, while simultaneously supporting four very deserving charities."
Originating seven years ago at DDB Canada's Vancouver office, ShareDDB became a national endeavour in 2011 with both the Edmonton and Toronto offices participating. This year, proceeds benefited four charities: the James Lee Foundation, a scholarship fund created in memory of a very special DDB family member who continues to inspire countless people in the advertising industry; Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, which provides a home-away-from-home for the families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital; The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, dedicated to providing food and assistance to those in need throughout Vancouver; and The Hope Mission, a non-profit organization that cares for those who are impoverished and homeless in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
ShareDDB 2012 kicked-off on November 21 in Vancouver at The Heritage Hall, Toronto's event wrapped up on November 29, with Edmonton's fundraiser concluding on December 5. Combined with this year's results, DDB Canada has raised over $120,000 over the course of seven years.
"ShareDDB has been an incredible agency-wide journey, bringing together clients, colleagues, vendors and families, who provide their best creative works for the greater good," adds Leonard. "In a period where global economic unrest is a reality and consumers are becoming more and more conscious about their spending habits, this kind of rewarding, employee-driven initiative becomes invaluable."
