Shaw Media Congratulates Its Production Partners on 82 Canadian Screen Awards Nominations

TORONTO, Jan. 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Shaw Media's powerhouse portfolio of original programming garnered an impressive 82 Canadian Screen Award nominations, as announced in a press conference held this morning by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. Shaw Media's nominations include 80 Television nominations and two Digital Media nominations, with 12 series receiving three or more nominations.

Global receives 18 nominations with nods in key categories including Best Dramatic Series for the inaugural season of the breakout medical drama Remedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role (Dillon Casey, Remedy), Best Dramatic Mini-Series or TV Movie (Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy), Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series (Jodi Balfour, Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy), Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role (Kacey Rohl and Andrea Martin, Working the Engels).
Securing nods in 10 out of 12 news categories, Global News celebrates a total of 11 nominations, with the investigative newsmagazine program, 16x9, at the top with five – the most since the series' inception. Respected anchor Dawna Friesen and investigative journalist Carolyn Jarvis receive nominations for Best News Anchor, National and Best Host or Interviewer in a News or Information Program or Series. Receiving a nomination for Best News Special is Global Toronto's Decision Ontario for its extensive coverage of the 2014 Ontario Provincial Election. In addition, Global BC's number one newscast among core viewers**, News Hour, was nominated for Best News Anchor, Local (Chris Gailus) and Best Reportage, Local for its outstanding coverage of the Mount Polley Mine Disaster.
Shaw Media's HISTORY dominates the specialty landscape with 22 award nominations, more than any other specialty network. Vikings, Canada's #1 specialty program*, picks up four nominations, including Best International Drama, Best Direction in a Dramatic Series, Best Sound in a Dramatic Program or Series and Best Visual Effects. Showcase's Continuum garners a nomination for Best Dramatic Series while Slice's raucous reality series Big Brother Canada and Unusually Thicke draw nominations for Best Reality/Competition Program or Series. HGTV Canada's fan-favourite Income Property and Food Network Canada's hit series You Gotta Eat Here! each receive nominations for Best Lifestyle or Talk Program or Series.
