Shaw Media Receives 92 Nominations for 2014 Canadian Screen Awards

TORONTO, Jan. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Shaw Media's stellar slate of original programming was honoured with 92 Canadian Screen Award nominations in a press conference held this morning by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. Shaw Media's nominations include 87 Television nominations and five Digital Media nominations.

Global's hugely successful series Rookie Blue received nine nominations, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role (Ben Bass), and two nominations for Best Performance in a Program or Series Produced for Digital Media (Missy Peregrym and Gregory Smith).
Shaw Media dominated the nominations in 11 categories, including four out of five nominations for Best Lifestyle or Talk Program/Series, two out of three nominations for Best International Drama and three out of five nominations for Best Reality/Competition Program or Series. Canada's number one specialty drama of 2013*, Vikings, landed six nominations, including Best International Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role (Katheryn Winnick). After an epic first season on the number one specialty reality series*, Big Brother Canada's host Arisa Cox was nominated for Best Host in a Variety, Lifestyle, Reality/Competition, Performing Arts or Talk Program or Series. The massively social series ripe with engaging digital extensions was also nominated in the Digital Media category Best Cross-Platform Project (Non-Fiction).
Global News celebrated nominations for trusted anchors Dawna Friesen (Best News Anchor, National) and Leslie Roberts (Best News Anchor, Local). In addition, Global Calgary's number one newscast among core viewers**, News Hour, was nominated for Best Local Newscast, as well as Best Special Event Coverage for its landmark community service during last June's devastating Alberta floods.
