Shell people unite donating $2.77 million to United Way
CALGARY, Nov. 5 /CNW/ - Shell Canada, its employees and retirees announced today a donation of more than $2.77 million to United Way of Calgary and Area. Shell's total contribution to Calgary United Way since 2000 is more than $32 million dollars.
"Our employees and retirees have a lot to be proud of. For 25 years, Shell has significantly supported the United Way in communities where we live and work across Canada," says Lorraine Mitchelmore, Shell Canada President and Country Chair. "As a united organization, Shell has again worked together with the United Way to have tangible and meaningful impact that address social issues in our community."
Each year, Shell matches its employees' and retirees' donations dollar for dollar. Shell retirees continue to play an important role in the campaign, contributing a third of the money raised this year.
"Shell's continuous support of United Way is proof that united we create a better future," says Ruth Ramsden-Wood, President of United Way of Calgary and Area. "The commitment from Shell's employees to their community is remarkable. Their fundraising and volunteer efforts are helping build a great city for everyone."
In addition to their financial support, Shell people volunteered hundreds of hours with campaign activities and Days of Caring™ events throughout the year. These events saw Shell people getting involved in the community, helping out those in need and uniting together for a positive cause.
