Show Thanks for Important Public Service - Student Transportation
TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2016 /CNW/ -
October 17-21, 2016 is School Bus Safety Week - a special opportunity for media, parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus companies, school boards/transportation consortia, and many others - to come together and reinforce the importance of student transportation and school bus safety. "Bully Free Zone!" is this year's theme. It helps remind everyone that differences should be respected not ridiculed. A bully free environment is important so that children can feel secure travelling to and from school knowing that bullying will not be tolerated and that there is an ongoing commitment of keeping all kids safe.
Wednesday, October 19, 2016 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Please show your thanks to professional school bus drivers everywhere, with a simple wave, a thank you or maybe even a cup of coffee. They embrace a tremendous responsibility to ensure kids remain protected and out of harm's way each and every day.
Ontario's 20,000 professional school bus drivers safeguard over 830,000 kids to and from school every day. Hundreds of thousands of parents depend on this important public service to arrive at their homes, on time, 5 days a week, 10 months of the year. As guardians of safety, school bus drivers are dedicated to transporting our children, reliably, securely, and ready to learn.
The Ontario School Bus Association (OSBA) is a non-profit association providing advocacy and education services for the owners of school bus companies and school boards and transportation consortia across Ontario. The school bus industry maintains the highest safety record as substantiated by Transport Canada.
The Independent School Bus Operators Association (ISBOA) represents 110 independent school bus companies from all regions of Ontario. Many of these companies are second generation families that for decades have safely transported students to and from their schools.
