Global creative powerhouse named a finalist for the 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards for the Fact Avalanche project with Protect Our Winters Canada to fight climate change misinformation
MONTRÉAL, April 28, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, Fast Company announced the names of the winners of its 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards, honouring the businesses, policies, projects and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to flattening the curve when it comes to the climate crisis, social injustice and economic inequality.
The Fact Avalanche, Sid Lee's project with Protect our Winters Canada, was nominated by Fast Company in the Advertising category. An online tool that buries climate change deniers' tweets in scientific facts, the Fact Avalanche was recognized for its ability to draw attention to a major social issue and inspire people to act.
A panel of eminent judges selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 3,000 entries across transportation, education, food, politics, technology, and more. The 2020 awards feature entries from across the globe, from Vancouver to Singapore to Tel Aviv. Fast Company's May/June issue will celebrate and illustrate how some of the world's most inventive entrepreneurs and companies are addressing grave global challenges.
"It goes without saying that we are very honoured to be recognized by Fast Company on this remarkable list of innovative solutions. As an organization, we aim to use our creativity and innovation to respond to the challenges we collectively face," said Vito Piazza, group president of Sid Lee. "We are confident this nomination will galvanize our artisans across the world to continue to create work that matters and inspire others to use their talent to benefit us all".
"There seems no better time to recognize organizations that are using their ingenuity, resources, and, in some cases, their scale to tackle society's biggest problems," said Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. "Our journalists, under the leadership of senior editor Morgan Clendaniel, have uncovered some of the smartest and most inspiring projects of the year."
The Fact Avalanche was launched in September 2019—just in time for Canada's federal election—to #FactBack against climate change misinformation and skepticism on Twitter, while giving Canadians more knowledge on the issue. After just three weeks, over 5 000 people had joined the movement and more than 100 Canadian companies had added the app to their Slack channel to bury popular deniers, fossil fuel lobby groups and political leaders' tweets in scientific facts.
