Siemens Canada named to list of top 100 Canadian employers
BURLINGTON, ON, Oct. 15 /CNW/ - For the second year in a row, competition confirms Siemens' strategy of being an employer of choice, is on track.
Siemens Canada, for the second year in a row, has been named one of Canada's top 100 employers, reflecting the company's focus to provide an excellent workplace and best-in-class practices for its 5,000 employees across Canada. "Winning this award for the second year in a row is not only gratifying; it confirms we are investing in the right programs which deliver results. More importantly, it reaffirms our employees endorse what we are doing", said Sean Walkinshaw, senior vice president, Human Resources, Siemens Canada.
Over the past few years, Siemens has redefined its culture by establishing three core values: Responsible; Excellent; and Innovative. By following these values, the company has set the bar high for itself and believes it is on the right track for becoming an employer of choice both in Canada and around the globe. According to Walkinshaw, "the war for talent has grown even fiercer than during the days of economic prosperity. As companies begin to emerge from the economic crisis, they are raising the bar on talent as now, more than ever, it is apparent that people are truly an organization's most valuable asset and the key to success. For this very reason, we have invested a significant amount of time in the last few years listening to our employees subsequently designing and delivering programs based on their feedback."
Siemens Canada has initiated a number of internal strategic programs to help enhance the workplace experience, such as its "Ways of Working" initiative - a program that provides a flexible work environment, through a commitment to a better work life balance. The company also recently introduced a new on-line tool to enhance how it measures performance and development, which are key to its people strategy. Siemens continues to strive to come up with initiatives like this and others, which puts the employee first. "Being named as a top employer in Canada last year was a great accomplishment. Maintaining our status for a second year is even more impressive, as we are committed to investing in our employees so they can be the best."
Now in its 11th year, the Canada's Top 100 Employers competition is an editorial project organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc., a specialty publisher of employment guides and periodicals. To develop this year's list, Mediacorp editors examined the recruitment histories of over 75,000 employers across Canada that it tracks for its popular job search site, Eluta.ca. From this initial group, Mediacorp invited 10,000 of the fastest-growing employers to apply, plus another 2,500 companies and organizations in industries that its editors wanted to examine more closely. Employers completed an extensive application process that included a detailed review of their operations and HR practices. Over 2,750 employers started this year's application process.
