Silfab Partners With Morgan Solar To Disrupt The Cost Of PV
Low Concentration PV Solution Aimed at Commercial, Utility-Scale Projects
TORONTO, Dec. 5, 2017 /CNW/ -- Silfab Solar, North America's leading PV module manufacturer, and Morgan Solar Inc., the foremost Canadian solar PV technology company, announced today a partnership to develop and mass produce a disruptive low-cost PV module, designed specifically for large commercial and utility-scale projects.
The joint venture brings together two of the most innovative and technologically advanced companies in the solar industry, to share their expertise and experience to produce large quantities of high-quality photovoltaic modules at internationally competitive costs.
"Silfab is proud to join with Morgan Solar and their brilliant innovators to lead the solar industry into a new and exciting era. Together, we will meet the needs of next-generation solar customers," said Paolo Maccario, Silfab's Chief Operating Officer.
"This agreement brings together the forward-thinking technologies and design of Morgan Solar with the highly efficient and high-volume production capabilities of Silfab. The commercial and utility solar industries will realize significant cost savings with lower capital investment, and superior quality for many years," said Mike Andrade, CEO of Morgan Solar Inc.
The announcement highlights advancements made by the parties in utilizing advanced low concentration optics into a standard solar module, manufactured using standard processes. Low concentration modules use significantly less silicon in the manufacturing process than conventional modules, and generate a similar amount of electricity. Reduced cells and silicon use per-module can reduce overall module costs by as much as 30 percent.
Morgan Solar has developed its revolutionary SimbaX™ Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) module and Savanna™ dual-axis tracker - two solar energy technologies that fundamentally change the economics of solar power. The company recently received a significant investment from the Canadian government through the Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) for development of both the SimbaX panel as well as the translucent SPOTlight panel. Silfab, which has leveraged its decades of solar experience and international partnerships, has continually invested in automating its manufacturing process that has positioned the company as the leading North American supplier of high-quality PV solar modules. New manufacturing methods, such as fully automated bussing, has helped Silfab to drive down the price of solar modules by reducing production costs. Silfab's manufacturing process is ranked among the most automated in the world.
