TORONTO, April 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Simon & Schuster Canada announces the publication of Clara Hughes' memoir, Open Heart, Open Mind, to be released in fall 2015. The acquisition was handled by Samantha Haywood of Transatlantic Agency.
Canadian Olympic champion Clara Hughes is celebrated as the only athlete in history to have won multiple medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, and she has since emerged as one of our most vocal and inspiring advocates for mental health.
For the first time, Clara shares her remarkable journey to becoming an elite athlete and her turbulent but ultimately redemptive relationship with her family in her memoir, Open Heart, Open Mind. With over twenty years competing in the endurance sports of speed skating and cycling, she speaks candidly about her personal triumph over physical and mental pain and her many successes and struggles both on and off the track. "I want to share my experience," she says. "Hopefully it will encourage people to better understand the struggle of mental illness and most importantly let people know they are not alone." Told with honesty, passion, and humour, Clara's story is sure to touch the hearts of all Canadians.
Kevin Hanson, President and Publisher of the Simon & Schuster Canada Publishing Group notes, "We are honoured to be working with Clara to help deliver her heartening account of her life to readers throughout North America."
The French-language edition of Open Heart, Open Mind will be published by Éditions Libre Expression simultaneously.
