Simon & Schuster Canada to publish Tie Domi memoir
TORONTO, Feb. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Tie Domi, one of the most popular and beloved players in NHL history, will publish his memoir with Simon & Schuster Canada in Fall 2015.
Though Tie is most known for having the most fights ever in the NHL, it is his unassailable loyalty to his teammates and the fact that he played with remarkable focus, diligence, and athleticism that captured the admiration of hockey fans all over the world. His memoir will detail the full scope of his unprecedented hockey career, his life outside of the rink with family and friends, and his life after professional hockey since his retirement in 2006. It is an inspiring story of family, camaraderie, hard work, perseverance, plenty of hockey and hard knocks.
"Tie Domi fought his way into the hearts of hockey fans," notes Kevin Hanson, President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Canada, "and sustained a memorable career through leadership and grit, loyalty and humility. We are honoured to work with Tie and help him tell his truly inspiring story."
Tie explains: "Hockey has been an extraordinary life experience, serving both my family and me. I hope my story will help people from all walks of life find inspiration from all of my life experiences. I love the game of hockey and I know I'm blessed to have had the privilege to do something every young kid from Canada dreams of doing. I took pride in caring for my teammates on and off the ice and I enjoyed every shift, every season, and every day and I never took it for granted. I was never the biggest or the most talented so I had to work harder, faster, and smarter. The same passion and values I had as a hockey player, I have today. I hope readers can learn from the experiences I've had, from my childhood, from my days as a professional hockey player, and now from being a parent and a businessman."
Tie is now an accomplished entrepreneur and consultant to major companies globally. His current charitable endeavours include work with a variety of organizations including SickKids Foundation, Diabetes Hope Foundation, Variety Village, and The Mario Lemieux Foundation. Tie is the father of two daughters, Carlin and Avery, and one son, Max, who was recently drafted by the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes and currently plays for the OHL's London Knights.
Tie's 17-year NHL career started with the New York Rangers where he became a big hit on Broadway and a fan favourite at Madison Square Garden, in no small part to his legendary fights with Bob Probert. He was later traded to the Winnipeg Jets where he protected rookie phenom Teemu Selanne, who scored 76 goals as a rookie. Tie spent the last seasons of his illustrious 17-year career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the 11 seasons he played with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tie established a team record of 2265 career penalty-minutes and he played in 777 games, putting him in the top-10 all-time in games played for the Leafs. Tie is second in Maple Leafs history for career playoff games played for right wingers behind only George Armstrong.
Tie is co-authoring the book with Jim Lang, one of Canada's most popular sport reporters. Over the years Jim has held a variety of positions from being a sports director to hosting shows. Jim is best known for his tenure at Rogers Sportsnet where he worked from 2001 to 2010. During that time Jim worked as an anchor, a traveling beat reporter for the Maple Leafs and also covered the Stanley Cup playoffs, five Super Bowls and the Grey Cup. Jim is the author of The Mental Game which explored the daily routines of NHL super-stars.
