SiriusXM Canada Invites the Country to Choose Canada's Next Top Comic
- 21 up-and-coming comics from across the country competing for a shot at a $15,000 grand prize and an opportunity to perform LIVE at Just For Laughs JFL42 Festival in Toronto
- Online voting now open to Canadians
TORONTO, July 30, 2013 /CNW/ - SiriusXM Canada (TSX: XSR), the country's leading audio entertainment company, today announced the semi-finalists for its fourth national comedy contest, SiriusXM's Next Top Comic.
Following live auditions in Toronto, Kitchener, Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg, the top three contestants from each market have been sent through to the voting round. SiriusXM is inviting Canadians to visit www.siriusxm.ca/nexttopcomic to watch each semi-finalist's performance and vote for their favourite. The top comic in each market will be invited to perform at the Just For Laughs JFL42 Comedy Festival in Toronto, where the best performer will be awarded a grand prize of $15,000 and the title of SiriusXM's Next Top Comic.
"Canada's comedy community is exploding with talent and SiriusXM Canada's Next Top Comic gets more competitive each year," said Ben Miner, Canadian Comic and host of SiriusXM's Canada Laughs channel. Canadians can visit http://www.siriusxm.ca/nexttopcomic to cast their vote. Voting closes on August 19 and the winners will be announced later in August. Voters will also be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Toronto to attend the Next Top Comic finale at JFL42.

- | Semi-Finals: Canadians are invited to vote online for their favourite performance in each city over the next three weeks. Seven finalists will be selected based on the number of votes received in addition to one wildcard video selection. Each of the eight finalists will be given a shot at comedy stardom with an opportunity to perform live at the Just For Laughs JFL42 Festival in Toronto in September. SiriusXM will provide the eight finalists with travel grants to cover transportation and accommodation in Toronto. |

Previous winners of SiriusXM Canada's Next Top Comic contest include Eric Andrews (2011), Matt O'Brien (2010) and Brian Stollery (2009). SiriusXM subscribers can hear the auditions from across the country on Canada Laughs, channel 168.
